The Course
The first Head of the River Race was held in 1926 and is a gruelling 6.8km long from Mortlake to Putney (shown in the diagram below).
​
Up to 400 crews take part, including those from overseas and olympic rowers, and the current record for the course was set by the Great Britain National Crew: 16 minutes and 37 seconds.
​
The race occurs in March and is usually entered by our mens crews, whilst the womens crews race in the equally as popular WEHORR.
